Chuck Charlebois Trail

Chuck’s fingerprints can be found throughout the Le Village business district, our beautiful waterfront and the Cornwall harbour. Gerald ‘Chuck’ Charlebois was a member of council for the City of Cornwall and a community organizer and volunteer who championed revitalization efforts along the city’s waterfront, Le Village and through his commitment to Groupe Renaissance Group. Chuck was one of the founders of Groupe Renaissance Group, which worked tirelessly on revitalizing the City of Cornwall, particularly Le Village. Chuck was heavily involved in the community, laying out a vision to redevelop the former Domtar land and the city’s harbour through the proposed Cornwall Harbour Revitalization Project. He was instrumental in the invitation of World Changers to Cornwall to assist homeowners with clean-up efforts at their property. Chuck served as a member of city council from 1986 to 1988, 1992 to 1994 and 1995 to 1997, but his commitment to the betterment of Cornwall had no expiry date.

“Our lives are measured from moment to moment, and I thank God that I spent those moments with you. You were always my rock, my heart and my love. The good work we accomplished was only because of the love, strength and support you showed me. Those moments could never be measured in increments, but instead weaved a mutual tapestry of devotion that I have taken with me on my journey. Like these arches, our love continues to stand the test of time. Take heart, I still share special moments with you.” – Chuck

Our strong heritage

Le Village has strong connections to Cornwall’s textile mills and Francophone heritage. The early nucleus of the Francophone community was Nativity Roman Catholic Church on Montreal Road which took five years to complete and was finished in 1892.
