Apparently you can go home again, and open a store.

Jean Poirier is doing just that.

Poirier, the 49-year-old grandson of the original owners of Poirier Furniture, has just opened his own business on Montreal Road in Cornwall, called Your Source Variety Store.

“I’m coming back to my roots,” said Poirier, standing in a spacious store of about 2,000 square feet, with everything from CB radios to kids toys, and laundry soap to bed sheets, at what he says are wholesale prices.

And all in a building that’s about 100 metres from Poirier Furniture.

“That’s a coincidence,” Poirier said. “But I am renting (the space from someone) who knew my grandparents very well.”

Yvette and Leo Poirier established Poirier Furniture in the 1940s and sold the business in the summer of 1976, before retiring to Florida.

Jean Poirier, then a child, went with them and grew up in the Ft. Lauderdale area, before the family moved to Ottawa.
