CORNWALL, Ontario – Hockey, beaver tails, hot chocolate and a whole lot of fun is set to descend on Le Village Saturday morning.
The popular Santa’s Street Hockey Challenge takes place Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m. and lasting until 4 p.m. Dozens of young hockey players will fill Montreal Road, between McConnell Avenue and Baldwin Street in a 3-on-3 tournament that’s all about good fun and plenty of exercise.
The event has become synonymous with the popular Santa Claus Parade that takes place in Cornwall later in the evening on the same day and likewise attracts families from across the city and region.
Businesses in Le Village will be offering beaver tails, hot chocolate and other goodies throughout the day.
“We believe that having fun is the most important part of sport and every player who participates will receive a tournament medal,” said street hockey challenge co-organizer Jeff McCullough.
Santa’s Street Hockey challenge is a free tournament to enter. The costs associated with this tournament are covered by local, national and international corporations and individuals. The proceeds go back into the community; to schools, the Children’s Christmas Fund and other local charities. Anyone wanting to donate can contact McCullough at jwmccullough1@cogeco.ca.
